The best AI SEO tools in 2026, compared side by side
Fifteen AI SEO tools ranked across visibility platforms, SEO suites, content optimizers, and agentic automation, with starting prices and the buyer each one fits.
Quick verdict
Promptwatch is our pick for most teams. It is the one tool here that tracks prompts, shows which pages and sources get cited, logs AI crawler visits, and follows AI referrals through to conversions, all in one account. AthenaHQ and Scrunch AI are the strongest dedicated alternatives. If you already pay for Semrush or Ahrefs, their AI add-ons are a cheap first look, but read their numbers as directional.
How we grouped the tools
"AI SEO tool" now covers four jobs. Some tools measure how AI assistants talk about your brand. Some are SEO suites with an AI column bolted on. Content optimizers score drafts, and agentic tools ship fixes or articles on a schedule.
We ranked them on one question: how much of the path from "are we visible?" to "what do we publish next, and did it pay off?" does the tool cover alone. Prices come from each tool's catalog entry. Where a vendor doesn't publish something, we leave it out.

The tools, one by one
1. Promptwatch
Promptwatch reads the real interfaces of ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Grok, Copilot, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, and several more, instead of leaning only on APIs. Each prompt carries a search volume, a difficulty score, and its query fan-outs, so you know which questions are worth chasing.
The deciding layer sits underneath. Agent Analytics logs ChatGPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, GoogleOther, and Meta's AI crawler as they hit your pages, and maps the crawl-to-citation path. Visitor analytics follows AI referrals to conversions with a small script or a GTM template. Content Agents then plan, write, and publish to Webflow, Framer, or WordPress, with a review inbox before anything goes live. Essential costs $95/mo. Crawler logs start on Professional at $245/mo, and the automated Content Agent arrives on Business at $579/mo.
2. AthenaHQ
AthenaHQ's Action Center turns visibility data into assignable tasks such as schema generation and content reformatting. Starter is $295/mo ($245 annual), covers one country, and bills in credits: one credit per AI response. Our listing records that the ACE Citation Engine, personas, and multi-region tracking are Enterprise features, and that it has no crawler analytics. See the AthenaHQ review.
3. Scrunch AI
Scrunch's Agent Experience Platform serves AI-optimized versions of your pages to LLM crawlers while the human page stays untouched, and it comes with crawler traffic analytics. Starter is $250/mo annual ($300 monthly) with three seats and 350 custom prompts. The monitoring half is weaker: our listing notes weak reporting, per-engine credit burn, and a weekly refresh. Sitecore acquired Scrunch in June 2026.
4. Semrush AI Toolkit
For $99/mo per domain you get 25 prompts and one user across ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini, and Perplexity, mapped to your keywords. Extra domains and seats are $99 each. The prompts are AI-generated approximations rather than observed queries, and Claude and Copilot need the sales-gated Enterprise AIO tier.
5. Ahrefs Brand Radar
You need an Ahrefs base plan from $129/mo, then $199/mo per AI index or $699/mo for all six. Jumping from a cited competitor page to its backlinks is useful. Accuracy is not: a January 2026 independent test found 3 reported ChatGPT mentions where manual checks verified 123.
6. Profound
Profound is sold mainly as marketing agents for AEO, content, demand, and PR. Starter at $99/mo (annual) is ChatGPT-only with 50 prompts. Growth at $399/mo (annual) covers three engines. The ten engines and the full Prompt Volumes dataset live in Enterprise, which starts around $40k a year, so it ranks below the dedicated platforms.
7. Surfer
Surfer's Content Editor scores drafts against targets taken from search results. Essential at $99/mo includes AI tracking for 25 prompts, weekly, on ChatGPT only; Scale at $219/mo gets 50 prompts daily across five engines. A 200-article independent test on our listing found the scores did not predict rankings, so use the score as a checklist.
8. Writesonic GEO
Starter costs $79/mo on annual billing and includes 15 AI articles, 50 tracked prompts, and three engines (ChatGPT, Gemini, AI Overviews). Perplexity, Claude, Copilot, Grok, AI Mode, and the Action Center are Enterprise only. It tells you that you appeared in an answer, not which page earned it.
9. AirOps
AirOps is a visual builder for LLM content pipelines with CMS publishing. Billing is metered in tasks, overage protection ships switched off, and the step after roughly $200/mo is roughly $2,000/mo. Solo-tier visibility tracking is ChatGPT-only, refreshed monthly.
10. SE Ranking AI Tracker
The $89/mo AI Search add-on (200 checks) rides on a core suite of about $129/mo. One check is one prompt on one engine, so five engines eat five checks. You get cached answer snapshots you can open and verify, plus white-label agency reporting. Citation-level tracking is still in development.
11. Frase
Frase builds briefs and drafts around the questions people ask, from $49/mo. Our listing records a 4.8 on G2 and a 1.3 on Trustpilot, the low score being almost all billing.
12. Clearscope
Clearscope's $129/mo tier gives you about 20 reports a month with unlimited seats. Its AI visibility module covers ChatGPT and Gemini only, and there is no rank tracking, backlink data, or audit tooling.
13 to 15. Okara, Seology, and Outrank
These three act rather than measure. Okara's Coding Agent opens GitHub pull requests with schema, llms.txt, and canonical fixes, starting on AI CMO Lite at $129/mo. Seology auto-fixes deterministic issues from 200+ checks and flags the rest; Pro is $49/mo for five sites. Outrank publishes 30 articles a month for $99/mo. None measures citations, crawler logs, or conversions, so you still need a visibility layer to know whether the work paid off.
Who should pick which
- A brand team that has to prove AI search drives revenue should start with Promptwatch on Essential, then move to Professional for crawler logs and Business once you want the Content Agent publishing on its own.
- Two or more marketers who will clear a task queue daily, and can watch credit burn, fit AthenaHQ.
- A large content library with engineering access to the CDN is the Scrunch AI case.
- One domain already living in Semrush: try the AI Toolkit add-on before buying anything dedicated.
- Agencies get unlimited projects and prompts plus 10 seats on Promptwatch's Kick-off plan at $199/mo. SE Ranking fits if the budget only covers a suite with white-label reports.
- Writers who need better briefs can use Surfer, Clearscope, or Frase, paired with a tracker.
- An engineering-led site that wants fixes merged as code can run Okara or Seology, with a visibility platform measuring the result.
