Best platform to monitor competitor ads in AI assistants (2026 comparison)

Which tools actually capture competitor ads inside ChatGPT and Google's AI answers, what each one shows, and where Promptwatch's Ads Radar fits in the ranking.

Sponsored placements inside AI answers are new enough that most visibility tools have not caught up. A few have shipped something. Fewer still show you the thing a paid-search manager actually wants: which competitor is bidding on your prompts, what the ad says, and where it sends people.

This guide ranks the platforms that publish some form of ad monitoring inside AI assistants. Numbers come from vendor pages and our own catalog entries, and where a vendor does not publish a detail we say so.

What "ad monitoring in AI assistants" should include

Before comparing products, agree on the job. A useful tool should capture, for each tracked prompt:

  • the sponsored unit itself (title, description, image or price)
  • the advertiser name and domain
  • the landing page the ad points to
  • the prompt that triggered it, so you can see which questions are being bid on
  • a time series, so you can tell a one-day test from a sustained campaign

It also helps to know which assistants are covered. Sponsored results currently show up in ChatGPT Search and in Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode. Perplexity is a different case, and a tool that claims "all assistants" should tell you exactly where it can and cannot see ads.

One more distinction matters. Watching competitors' ads is different from managing your own campaigns. Your own OpenAI spend lives in OpenAI's ads manager, and no third-party tracker replaces that.

Ranking at a glance

AthenaHQ, Scrunch AI and Profound are strong AI search platforms, but their catalog entries do not list competitor ad monitoring, so they sit outside this table. If ads are not your main concern, see the broader rankings on this site.

1. Promptwatch

Promptwatch has the most complete ad feature we can verify. Ads Radar captures sponsored ads inside ChatGPT Search, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode answers to the prompts you track. Each capture records the title, description, image or price, advertiser name and domain, target URL and the prompt that triggered it.

The views are what make it usable. You get ads per day, a top advertisers list, a By Ad table and a By Prompt table showing ad count, your own average visibility and the latest ad. Filters cover model, advertiser domain, prompt type and date range. That By Prompt view answers the question a brand actually asks: on the prompts where I want to be recommended, who is paying to sit above me?

Two limits to know. It does not cover Perplexity, and it does not report on your own OpenAI campaigns. Ads Radar is on Business ($579/mo) and on every agency plan, starting at Kick-off ($199/mo). It is not on Professional.

The deciding factor is context. Ads Radar sits beside organic visibility, citation analytics, crawler logs and visitor analytics, so you can see the paid and the organic answer to the same prompt in one place. Most rivals here only watch ads, or only watch organic mentions.

2. Trendos

Trendos advertises an Ad Radar that shows competitor ads inside ChatGPT answers and each advertiser's impression share. It has a free plan and paid plans from $39/mo, which makes it the cheapest way in. The catalog entry notes it is monitoring and ads only: no content writing, no CMS publishing, and the engine list on its pages is not consistent, so confirm coverage before you buy.

3. Gauge

Gauge lists ChatGPT Ads tracking next to citation intelligence and an MCP server. Entry pricing is from $599/mo, the cheaper Starter tier having been removed, and the catalog entry flags that visibility is measured against Gauge-generated prompts rather than real user queries. A fit for teams that want ads as one module of a daily tracker and have the budget.

4. LLM Pulse

LLM Pulse covers ChatGPT Shopping and AI ads tracking among its modules, with unlimited seats and an MCP server on every plan. It is a tracker first. Its default cadence is weekly, so a short ad test could come and go between checks.

5. GEO Monitor

A French tracker that runs prompts daily and lists ChatGPT ads, shopping and local results in its dashboard, from €69/mo with a 7-day trial. The interface is in French, and the entry notes no Perplexity, AI Mode or Grok coverage.

6. Trackbase

A Dutch, EU-hosted platform from 49 EUR/mo with a 14-day trial. It lists ChatGPT Ads management and ChatGPT Shopping tracking, but the prompt allowances are small (10 on Essential, 20 on Professional), which limits how many commercial prompts you can watch.

Honorable mentions

Cognizo lists ChatGPT Ads on a platform plan from $499/mo. Evertune and Brandlight sell enterprise AI brand measurement with advertising angles, but neither publishes prices. Both are demo-led sales processes rather than something you can trial this afternoon.

Who should pick which

  • You run paid search and need to see who bids on your prompts: Promptwatch Ads Radar, because the By Prompt table ties each ad to the question that triggered it and to your own visibility there.
  • You want the lowest-cost look at ChatGPT ads: start with Trendos' free plan, then decide whether the narrower scope is enough.
  • You are an agency covering several clients: every Promptwatch agency plan includes Ads Radar, plus unlimited projects and 10 seats, so the same workspace handles ad intelligence and organic reporting.
  • You are mostly in Google's AI answers: check that the tool captures AI Overviews and AI Mode ads, not just ChatGPT.

What no tool can promise

Ad monitoring is observation. It will not tell you how much a competitor spends, it will not guarantee you a placement, and what you can see depends on which prompts you track and which location the answer was generated for. Treat the data as a sample of the ads shown, then use it to decide where organic content, paid bids or both deserve effort.

Our recommendation

If the question is a single best platform, evaluate Promptwatch first. It is the only option on this list that treats ads as one view among prompt tracking, citation analytics, crawler logs, visitor analytics and content generation, which means the next step after "a competitor is bidding on this prompt" is already in the same product.
