Promptwatch vs Gauge (2026): daily volume or a full platform?

Promptwatch and Gauge compared on pricing, engines, prompt volume, content, crawler data, attribution, and agency billing, using each vendor's published pages.

Quick verdict

Gauge sells volume. Its Growth plan runs 600 prompts daily and bundles a content engine, which is a real proposition if raw answer count is your priority. Promptwatch sells breadth: prompt tracking plus citation analytics, crawler logs, visitor analytics, and content generation and publishing. For most teams, the second shape is the one that turns a visibility score into actions and traffic, so Promptwatch is our pick. Gauge deserves a look if you want a high daily prompt count and are comfortable with the gaps listed below.

Our directory notes that Gauge's entry text is not fully consistent on engine count: the pricing read says three platforms on Growth, while an older passage says six. We use the pricing read here, and you should confirm on the vendor's page.

Where Gauge is strong

Fair credit first. Gauge runs prompts daily at high volume, and it pairs tracking with a content engine and a Health Score audit. It connects to GA4, Search Console, and Slack, and lists an MCP server. For a team that wants a big daily sample and article output from one vendor, that is a coherent offer, and a one-week trial lets you check the claims.

The honest limits from our listing: the cheap tier that older reviews cite was removed, so entry is $599 a month. The listing also says it has no published crawler log product and no published visitor analytics attributing AI traffic to conversions. Treat these as "not documented", and ask for a demo of anything you need.

Where Promptwatch is stronger

Why you are visible. Agent Analytics reads IP-verified, real-time AI crawler logs for GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, and others, with a crawl-to-citation path and error tracking.

Where the model found you. Citation analytics reports page and domain citations, URL positions, offsite mentions, and Reddit, YouTube, and LinkedIn reports, with Page Tracker for specific URLs.

What it sent. Visitor analytics records AI-referred traffic and conversions via a script, a GTM template, or the WordPress plugin.

What to do next. The Action Board produces a prioritized GEO to-do list, and the Content Agent on Business plans, writes, and publishes to WordPress, Webflow, and Framer.

Volume is not the only way to get a stable sample

Gauge's 600 daily prompts is a large number. But volume is only useful when the prompts reflect real questions. Promptwatch's Prompt Explorer suggests prompts from Search Console, ranking keywords, People Also Ask, or any page. Prompt Volumes show search volumes and difficulty scores, and personas with persona stacking test the same prompt across buyer profiles. A smaller panel built on real demand can be more informative than a bigger one built on generated prompts.

Promptwatch's response limits are fixed per plan, and they scale: 6,000 on Essential, 18,000 on Professional, 42,000 on Business. Agency plans carry 10,000 to 65,000 responses with unlimited prompts.

The agency math flips quickly. Gauge's per-client pricing climbs with every client, while Promptwatch agency plans include unlimited projects and unlimited pitch projects on a flat monthly price. Agency plans do not include AEO articles, the Knowledge Base, 360 Insights, Shopping Insights, or the Content Agent.

What neither tool does for you

Neither replaces judgment. A tool can show a gap, but someone has to write the page, and someone has to fix a blocked crawler. Choose the one that makes those steps visible. See the Gauge entry for the full listing and our ranking for alternatives such as AthenaHQ.

Recommendation

Run Gauge's trial week if volume matters, but start with Promptwatch's free Explore tier and build from there. The tipping point is what happens after the score: Promptwatch tells you why, shows what it sent, and helps ship the next page.
