What are the best GEO tools for generative engine optimization?

A ranked look at the best GEO tools for generative engine optimization, with sourced pricing, honest gaps, and a guide to which platform fits which team.

GEO tools help you get named and cited in AI answers from ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI surfaces. The market splits into three groups: trackers that report whether you were mentioned, platforms that also explain and act, and automation tools that publish content but do not measure visibility. Which group you need depends on what you intend to do with the data.

Our ranking prefers products that cover the whole job: measurement, diagnosis and action. Prices come from our tool directory, and where a vendor does not publish a number, we say so.

How we ranked

We asked five questions of each tool.

  1. Does it track prompts across several engines on a daily schedule?
  2. Does it show which sources and pages engines cite?
  3. Can it show whether AI crawlers reach your site?
  4. Can it connect AI visibility to visits and conversions?
  5. Does it help you create or fix content?

A tool that answers yes to all five is rare. That is the main reason the ranking looks the way it does.

1. Promptwatch

Promptwatch is the only product in this list that answers yes to all five. It runs daily prompt panels per model, country and language, with Visibility Score, Share of Voice, Sentiment and Position in Answer. Citation analytics cover pages, domains, Reddit, YouTube, LinkedIn and offsite mentions. Agent Analytics reads IP-verified AI crawler logs for bots such as GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot. Visitor analytics tracks AI-referred traffic and conversions. The Action Board prioritizes fixes, and the Content Agent plans, writes and publishes against visibility gaps.

Pricing: a free Explore tier (10 prompts, ChatGPT only), Essential at $95/mo, Professional at $245/mo and Business at $579/mo. Agency plans run $199, $399 and $799. Crawler logs start on Professional, and the Content Agent starts on Business. It is the platform to evaluate first.

2. AthenaHQ

AthenaHQ is a GEO platform from former Google Search and DeepMind engineers. It rolls visibility into a GEO score and turns gaps into tasks through an Action Center and a content optimization agent. Starter is $295/mo with 3,600 credits, where one credit equals one AI response, and Enterprise adds personas and an audit log. Our directory notes it has no published crawler-log product. Best for teams who will work an action queue daily.

3. Scrunch AI

Scrunch AI offers monitoring, site audits, sentiment and AI agent and bot traffic reporting. Core is $250/mo for 125 prompts, 5,000 responses a month and four LLMs. Its Agent Experience Platform serves AI-optimized page versions to crawlers and is on the custom Enterprise tier. Best for content-heavy sites that want that serving layer.

4. Profound

Profound began as an answer tracker and now sells itself as an AI Marketer with agents for content, demand and PR. It has a free 7-day trial and a custom Enterprise plan, with an earlier estimate of about $40k a year. It tracks up to nine answer engines on Enterprise. It is built for large teams buying an agent program, not for a team that wants a plain tracker.

5. SEO suite add-ons

If you already live in a major SEO suite, these add AI columns next to existing data.

  • Semrush AI Toolkit: listed at $99/mo per domain, though our directory could not re-verify that against the vendor on its last check.
  • Ahrefs Brand Radar: Custom Prompts is included with paid Ahrefs plans, with a daily quota of 5, 10 or 20 prompts depending on the plan; the AI Visibility Index starts at $199/mo and is retested monthly.
  • HubSpot AEO: $50/mo for three engines and 25 prompts daily.

6. Agentic automation tools

Tools such as Okara and SEO MCP act rather than measure. Okara's AI CMO plans run $129/mo (Lite) and $249/mo (Pro) and ship technical fixes as GitHub pull requests you approve. SEO MCP is an MCP server with 39 tools for audits, Search Console and GA4, with a free tier of 50 calls a month. Both are useful to pair with a visibility platform. Neither measures citations or crawler activity across engines, so we rank them below the dedicated platforms.

Who should pick which

  • You want one platform to measure, explain and publish: Promptwatch.
  • You want a daily action queue and can live with credit-based billing: AthenaHQ.
  • You need an agent-serving layer for a large content site: Scrunch AI.
  • You run a big enterprise marketing function and want agents: Profound.
  • You live in Ahrefs, Semrush or HubSpot and want a basic AI view: use the add-on, then outgrow it.
  • You want fixes shipped as code: Okara, alongside a tracker.

One caution on any GEO tool

None of them can guarantee you will be recommended. They show where you stand, why, and what to change. The fixes still have to be made, on your pages and on third-party sources, and then re-measured. Pick the tool that makes that loop shortest.
