Ahrefs Brand Radar review 2026: pricing, features, and alternatives
Brand Radar points the Ahrefs index at AI search. Useful as a research database, weak as a tracker. Index pricing, the accuracy test, and alternatives compared.
Quick verdict
Ahrefs Brand Radar is a good research database and a poor tracker. It applies Ahrefs' index to AI search, modeling hundreds of millions of prompts so you can see category-level share of voice and jump from a competitor's cited page straight into its backlinks. As a measurement tool it is hard to trust: an independent test caught a roughly 97% undercount of ChatGPT mentions, chatbot data refreshes about monthly, and full coverage costs $828/mo or more once stacked on a base plan. We rank it #5. Use it for quarterly research, not weekly reporting.
What it does
Brand Radar measures brand mentions and citations across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot, Google AI Overviews, and AI Mode. Each engine is a separate index. The prompt corpus runs from 260 million to 405 million, built from Ahrefs' keyword and People Also Ask data, and an Estimated Impressions metric weights results by Google search volume.
That scale is the selling point. A tracker that checks a few hundred of your own prompts cannot tell you who dominates AI citations across a whole market. Brand Radar can give you a directional answer.
The second selling point is the pivot. A page that gets cited ahead of yours is one click away from its full backlink profile and content gaps in regular Ahrefs. If your team already closes SEO gaps in Ahrefs, Brand Radar turns an AI visibility finding into a familiar link and content task.
Pricing
Brand Radar has left its free beta. It now requires a paid Ahrefs plan.
| Plan | Price | Includes |
|---|---|---|
| Ahrefs base (required) | From $129/mo | Core Ahrefs toolset |
| Brand Radar index | $199/mo per AI index | One engine's mention and citation index |
| All-6 index bundle | $699/mo | ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot, AI Overviews, AI Mode |
| Custom prompts | +$50/mo per 2,500 checks | Your own tracked prompts |
A realistic full configuration lands between $828 and $1,148+/mo on our listing. There is no white-label or per-client structure, so an agency running ten clients this way would be looking at $8,000/mo or more.
The sensible entry is one index at $199/mo on top of the base plan, usually ChatGPT or AI Overviews, whichever matters most to your traffic.
Strengths
Index depth. Ahrefs runs one of the best crawl indexes in SEO, and Brand Radar inherits that scale for category questions such as whether your AI presence is growing relative to competitors.
The pivot from insight to action. No standalone GEO tool on our list connects a cited competitor page to its backlink data as directly.
Fair bundle pricing for existing Ahrefs customers who only need one or two indexes for periodic research.
Limitations
Accuracy is the headline problem. In an independent January 2026 test, Brand Radar reported 3 ChatGPT mentions for a site where manual checks verified 123, an undercount of roughly 97%. The test attributed this to the snapshot method and keyword-derived prompts.
The prompts are modeled from Google search keywords, which is not how people talk to chatbots. Estimated Impressions weights by Google volume, a modeling choice Ahrefs itself does not claim is validated. Treat any absolute number as a floor.
Refresh is slow. Chatbot indexes update on roughly monthly cycles, so short-term movement after a content change will not show.
Coverage has holes. There is no Claude, Grok, or Meta AI index.
Agency use does not fit. Without a per-client structure, costs multiply per account.
Our listing also documents no AI crawler logs, no visitor analytics tying AI referrals to conversions, and no content pipeline that publishes to a CMS.

Semrush AI Toolkit is the obvious suite alternative: cheaper for one domain at $99/mo for five engines, with the same caveat about modeled prompts. Scrunch AI suits brands that want to shape what crawlers read, through its Agent Experience Platform.
Promptwatch is the alternative for the job Brand Radar does worst, which is measurement. It monitors the real AI interfaces on every paid plan, including Claude and Grok, which Brand Radar does not index. Each prompt carries search volume, difficulty, and query fan-outs, so you still get a sense of demand without relying on Google keyword modeling. Citation analytics show which of your pages, and which Reddit threads or YouTube videos, the engines cite, with trends over time. Agent Analytics (from Professional, $245/mo, 25M crawler logs) shows whether AI crawlers fetched a page before it was cited, and visitor analytics ties AI referrals to conversions. Essential at $95/mo costs less than a single Brand Radar index before you even add the Ahrefs base plan.
Verdict
Keep Brand Radar if you are an Ahrefs team that runs quarterly competitive research and values the backlink pivot. One index is enough for that, and the category view is useful as long as nobody reports its absolute numbers upward.
Do not use it as your AI visibility tracker. The undercount, the monthly refresh, and the missing engines make it the wrong instrument for weekly decisions. Pair your Ahrefs research with a measurement platform, and start that evaluation with Promptwatch. See our Brand Radar alternatives and the full ranking.
