The Prompting Company review 2026
The Prompting Company tracks coding agents and tests whether they can use your product. We look at its plans, credit math, what it leaves undocumented, and who should buy it.
Quick verdict
The Prompting Company is the AI visibility vendor that leans hardest into developer software. Its upper plans track coding agents such as Claude Code and Codex, and Enterprise tests whether an agent can complete a task with your docs, which nobody else in our comparison tables does. Measurement is thinner than the price implies: $99 a month buys 25 prompts on three engines, and crawler logs and conversion tracking are not documented. It ranks below Promptwatch, AthenaHQ, Scrunch AI, and Profound in our directory. Devtools companies should book a demo; most other buyers should trial Promptwatch first.
What the product does
The pitch is "Get discovered & bought by AI agents," split into two jobs. Discovery finds the questions people ask AI about your category, generates content for the gaps, and measures traffic and mentions from AI bots.
Usability, which the company calls Agent Experience, maps the tasks an agent runs for a user and surfaces where it gets stuck: a misconfigured API setup, missing docs, an unclear error. The vendor says the best fit is devtools, infrastructure, or software with an MCP server, CLI, API, SDK, or docs-based workflow, and we'd agree.
Radar (Enterprise) turns public threads, videos, and posts about your market into tracked prompts. The public Agent Experience Benchmark has a coding agent attempt a real use case from a product's docs in a fresh sandbox, scored by an independent judge.
Pricing and the credit math
| Plan | Price | Credits/mo | Prompts | Engines in the plan table | AI-optimized articles | Seats |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $99/mo | 1,000 | 25 | ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini | 0 | 1 |
| Pro | $299/mo, free trial (length not stated) | 4,000 | 100 | Adds Google AI | 8 | 3 |
| White-glove | $3,000/mo, managed | 12,000 | Custom | Adds DeepSeek, Claude, Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode | 50 | 3 |
| Enterprise is custom and adds the Agent Experience audit, Radar, and SAML SSO. One AI response costs one credit per region, and an article costs 20. The page doesn't state how often prompts run: 25 prompts on three engines once a day would be about 2,250 responses a month, more than double Basic's 1,000 credits, so ask what cadence the allowance assumes. |
Strengths
Coding-agent coverage is the real differentiator: if developers pick tools by asking Claude Code or Codex, a ChatGPT-only tracker misses your buyers. Agent Experience testing is the second. A tracker tells you whether you were recommended; this tells you whether the agent then got something working.
The founders previously built Typedream (YC W20, acquired by beehiiv) and Cotter (acquired by Stytch), the company raised a $6.5M seed led by Peak XV with Y Combinator in October 2025, and the Enterprise page lists SOC 2 Type II. Its Hyperbrowser case study reports share of voice in browser-automation answers rising from 3% to 58%, a vendor-reported figure.
Limitations
Claude, DeepSeek, and the coding agents start at White-glove, a tenfold jump from Pro. Grok, Copilot, Mistral, and Llama are not listed, and lower plans get one language.
The pages we read don't document CDN crawler-log connectors, a first-party visitor script with conversions (traffic comes through Google Analytics or PostHog), Reddit or YouTube citation breakdowns, or named CMS publishing. TechCrunch described hosted AI-optimized pages in October 2025, a different model from publishing to your own site.

Who should pick which
Pick The Prompting Company if you sell an API, SDK, CLI, or MCP server and need to know whether coding agents choose and can use your product. Budget for White-glove or Enterprise.
Pick AthenaHQ for a daily action queue, or Scrunch AI if serving AI-optimized pages to crawlers is the lever you want.
Pick Promptwatch if you need AI visibility across many engines, tied to your own site's crawls and revenue.
Our recommendation
For most teams the deciding question is why a page isn't cited, which needs crawler logs and conversion data the Prompting Company doesn't publish. Promptwatch Professional ($245/mo) has 25M crawler logs showing which pages ChatGPTBot or ClaudeBot fetched, plus 1M visitor events for AI-referred conversions. Devtools teams can add an Agent Experience audit if onboarding is the bottleneck. Start with Promptwatch.
