The Prompting Company review: pricing, features & alternatives

Ranked #17

Side by side, The Prompting Company trades tracking breadth for two things rivals lack: coding-agent coverage and agent-usability testing.

Our verdict

In a head-to-head, The Prompting Company wins one scenario clearly: a software company whose customers find tools through coding agents. In the general comparison, Promptwatch covers more engines, more prompts, crawler logs, citations, and conversions for less money, and it is the one we would shortlist first.

Best for: Devtools, API, and infrastructure companies comparing GEO vendors that need coding-agent visibility and agent onboarding tests more than broad engine coverage.

Put The Prompting Company next to the other AI visibility platforms and two columns stand out. It tracks coding agents (Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode) on its upper plans, and it audits whether those agents can actually complete onboarding with your product. In most other columns it is ordinary or behind: 25 prompts on three engines at $99/mo, 100 prompts at $299/mo, and no published crawler logs or conversion tracking.

Pricing is public: Basic $99/mo, Pro $299/mo, White-glove $3,000/mo managed, Enterprise custom. The company was founded in 2025 by the team behind Typedream and Cotter, raised a $6.5M seed led by Peak XV with Y Combinator, and is SOC 2 Type II compliant.

In our comparisons Promptwatch wins on measurement per dollar: 50 prompts on every model for $95, CDN crawler logs from $245, visitor conversions, and citation analytics down to Reddit and YouTube. The Prompting Company wins for devtools companies whose buyers are coding agents.

Where it wins a comparison

Two capabilities. First, the plan table lists Claude Code, Codex, and OpenCode as tracked models from White-glove up, and its FAQ names personal agents such as Muse, GrokBot, Instinct, and Dots. Second, Agent Experience: a coding agent reads your docs and attempts a real task in a sandbox, and the audit reports where it broke, from API setup to error messages.

Its vendor case study for Hyperbrowser reports share of voice in browser-automation answers rising from 3% to 58%. That is the company's own figure, but it shows the kind of developer-category question the product is built for.

Where it loses one

Engine coverage per dollar is the clearest gap. Basic tracks ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini; Pro adds Google AI; Claude and DeepSeek appear at $3,000/mo. Grok, Copilot, Mistral, and Llama are not listed at all. Language support is one language below White-glove.

The owned-site layers are also undocumented: no CDN crawler-log connectors or volumes, no first-party visitor script (traffic comes from Google Analytics or PostHog), and no page-level, Reddit, or YouTube citation breakdowns on the pages we read.

Promptwatch in the same table

Promptwatch starts free, then $95/mo for 50 prompts on every model it monitors, $245/mo for 150 prompts with 25M crawler logs and 5 AEO articles, and $579/mo for the automated Content Agent, Shopping Insights, and Ads Radar. Crawler logs show the crawl-to-citation path; visitor analytics records AI-referred conversions.

For anyone outside devtools, that is the better row in the table. For a devtools company, the honest pick is Promptwatch for measurement plus The Prompting Company's Agent Experience audit if agent onboarding is the bottleneck.

What is agent experience?

The Prompting Company's term for how AI agents find, understand, and use a product. Discovery is whether assistants recommend you. Usability is whether an agent, such as Claude Code or Codex, can actually complete a task with your docs, API, SDK, or CLI. The usability audit is on the Enterprise plan; the company says the best fit is devtools, infrastructure, and software with an MCP server, CLI, API, SDK, or docs-based workflow.

Which AI engines does The Prompting Company track?

Its FAQ lists ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity for AI search, Codex and Claude Code for coding agents, and Muse, GrokBot, Instinct, and Dots as personal agents. The pricing table gates them by plan: Basic gets ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini, Pro adds Google AI, and DeepSeek, Claude, Claude Code, Codex, and OpenCode start at White-glove ($3,000/mo).

Does The Prompting Company have AI crawler logs?

Its homepage says it measures incoming traffic and mentions from AI bots, and TechCrunch (October 2025) described it routing AI agents to AI-optimized pages it hosts. It does not publish CDN log connectors, log volumes, or a crawl-to-citation view on the pages we read. Traffic integrations listed on the pricing page are Google Analytics and PostHog.

Who is behind The Prompting Company?

Kevin Chandra (CEO), Michelle Marcelline, and Albert Purnama, who previously built Typedream (YC W20, acquired by beehiiv) and Cotter (acquired by Stytch). The company raised a $6.5M seed round led by Peak XV with Y Combinator, Base10, Kearny Jackson, and Standard Capital, announced on 30 October 2025.

The Prompting Company or Promptwatch?

Promptwatch for AI visibility measurement and optimization on your own site: free Explore tier, 50 prompts across every model on Essential ($95/mo), CDN crawler logs from Professional ($245/mo), page-level and Reddit/YouTube citation analytics, visitor conversions, and Content Agents that publish to Webflow, Framer, or WordPress.
