The Prompting Company vs Profound (2026): agent readiness or enterprise marketing agents?
The Prompting Company and Profound both reach past AI search tracking, in opposite directions. We compare pricing, engines, agents, and fit, and say who should buy which.
Quick verdict
Both vendors started from AI answer tracking and then grew in different directions. The Prompting Company went toward developers: coding-agent tracking and tests of whether an agent can actually use your product. Profound went toward the marketing department: agents for research, content, reporting, and workflows, with AI search as one channel. Pick the Prompting Company if you sell developer software. Pick Profound if you are an enterprise marketing team buying an agent program. If what you actually need is a dedicated AI visibility tool, neither is our first choice; Promptwatch is.

Where the Prompting Company is stronger
Price transparency comes first. You can see what Basic, Pro, and White-glove cost, and you can buy one without a sales call. Profound's public page shows a trial and an Enterprise plan with no number. A self-serve Agency Growth plan is mentioned, but without a price.
The developer angle is the bigger point. The Prompting Company tracks Claude Code, Codex, and OpenCode from White-glove, and its Enterprise Agent Experience audit reports where agents fail when they try to use your product, from API setup to unclear error messages. Profound's listing documents nothing comparable. If your growth depends on developers asking an agent what to install, this is the deciding row.
It also has a managed option at a fixed price. White-glove at $3,000/mo runs the program for you with weekly reports and a dedicated specialist on a 24-hour SLA.
Where Profound is stronger
Prompt Volumes is a real asset. It estimates actual query demand per prompt, which helps decide what is worth tracking at all. The Prompting Company's Radar does a related job from the other end, turning public conversations into prompts, but it is Enterprise only and doesn't claim demand estimates.
Engine reach on Enterprise is broader on paper. Profound's Enterprise plan covers up to nine answer engines. The Prompting Company's plan table, even at White-glove, lists ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI, DeepSeek, and Claude, plus three coding agents.
Scope is the third. A large marketing org that wants one vendor running agents across content and reporting, with SSO and SOC 2, gets that from Profound. Our listing also records a G2 score of 4.6/5 and a $96M Series C, which says something about vendor scale.
What neither documents
On the pages behind our listings, neither vendor documents CDN crawler-log connectors with a crawl-to-citation view, a first-party visitor script that ties AI referrals to conversions, or citation breakdowns down to Reddit and YouTube. The Prompting Company routes traffic data through Google Analytics and PostHog. Profound names an Agent Analytics product, but our listing has no detail on how it ingests logs. For a team whose question is "why isn't this page cited," that's the gap to close.
Who should pick which
Pick the Prompting Company if you are a devtools, API, or infrastructure company and coding agents are a buying channel. Plan for White-glove or Enterprise, since that's where the coding agents and the audit sit.
Pick Profound if you are an enterprise marketing team with budget in the tens of thousands a year, an owner for the platform, and a mandate that spans content and reporting as well as search.
Pick Promptwatch if you want to measure and improve AI visibility directly. It is self-serve from a free tier, $95/mo for 50 prompts on every model it monitors, and $245/mo for Professional with 25M crawler logs and 1M visitor events.
Our recommendation
Before committing to either a $3,000/mo managed tier or a five-figure Enterprise contract, run Promptwatch for a month. Agent Analytics shows which pages ChatGPTBot, ClaudeBot, and PerplexityBot actually fetch, citation analytics show which sources win the answer, and visitor analytics tells you what AI traffic is worth. That data makes either vendor conversation sharper, and for most teams it answers the question on its own. Try Promptwatch.
