Tools to track AI visibility by zip code

Tools to track AI visibility by zip code, compared honestly: coordinate targeting, geo-grids and per-location modules, plus what none of them document yet.

If you are looking for tools to track AI visibility by zip code, here is the honest starting point: in the vendor material we reviewed, none of the tools describes a literal zip code field. What exists instead are three approximations. You can pin a monitor to exact coordinates with a radius, sample a prompt from a grid of points around a location, or track each business location as its own unit. Which one fits depends on how your zip codes map to the area you care about.

Why zip code tracking is hard

AI engines answer local questions based on where the question seems to come from, and the answer can differ between neighborhoods. "Best emergency plumber" asked in one part of a city can name different businesses than the same question a few kilometers away. So a zip code is a sensible unit for a local business to think in.

The problem is that most AI visibility tools were built to track brands, not places. Their location controls usually work at country level, sometimes state or city. A few go further. And engines differ in how much they respect a location signal, so a tool that sets a location may apply it to only some of them. Treat any "zip code" claim, including in our own comparison, as something to test on your own prompts before you pay.

The three approaches

Coordinate targeting. The tool pins a monitor to latitude and longitude, and a radius. This is the closest to a zip code if you can place the center and pick a radius.

Grid sampling. The tool sends the same prompt from many points on a map and shows where the business is recommended. This is the best way to see how visibility changes across an area.

Per-location tracking. Each business location is its own record, with prompts that name the category and the city. This suits multi-location brands more than zip-level analysis.

Promptwatch: the closest to zip-level targeting in a full platform

Promptwatch added Local GEO/SEO targeting in October 2026. It pins a monitor to exact coordinates with a radius from 20 meters to 5 kilometers, so ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode answer as if asked from that spot. Other models fall back to country, state or city. It is available on Business, Agency Scale and Enterprise.

In practice, for a zip code, you would place a monitor at the center of the area, pick a radius that approximates it, and repeat for each zip code you care about. That is our reading of how to use it, not a documented zip feature, and it fits compact urban areas better than large rural ones, since the radius tops out at 5 km. State and city tracking, which come on Business and every agency plan, give you a coarser fallback.

The reason to use it over a grid tool is what surrounds the location data. Citation analytics show which pages and domains the engines trust in that area, including offsite mentions where a brand is named on a third-party page without a link. Agent Analytics shows whether AI crawlers can fetch your location pages, with IP-verified logs. Visitor analytics measures AI-referred visits and conversions. The content gap analysis shows where competitors are named and you have no page. And the Content Agent (Business and Enterprise) can plan and publish against those gaps with a review inbox.

Costs and trade-offs: Business is $579 a month, which is heavy for a single-location shop. Coordinate targeting is on Agency Scale ($799) among the agency plans, not on Kick-off or Growth. The free tier is ChatGPT only with no location features.

The grid and location tools

Local Falcon is the best way to see variation across an area. It samples the same prompt from every point on a grid and maps where the business is recommended, with a Share of AI Voice score. It also reports sources and competitors named instead. The catch is credits. A 9x9 grid uses 81 credits, so ten keywords on a 9x9 grid run four times a month is 3,240 credits for one location.

BrightLocal and Synup treat each location as a unit and sit inside local marketing platforms with listings and reviews. They suit a business that lives in those tools. Each caps prompts per location and covers three engines.

Uberall GEO Studio and Yext Scout serve multi-location brands, with the pricing and engine caveats shown in the table.

Who should pick which

  • Multi-market brand or agency wanting coordinates, citations, crawler data and content together: Promptwatch.
  • Service-area business that wants a map of where it wins: Local Falcon.
  • A few storefronts living in listings and reviews: BrightLocal or Synup.
  • Enterprise on Uberall or Yext: their own modules.

Before you buy anything, run one real zip code through a trial. AI answers vary from run to run, so repeat the check, and remember no tool can guarantee that an engine will recommend your business in a given area.
