What's the best tool to track brand mentions in ChatGPT and Perplexity answers?
We compare the tools that track brand mentions in ChatGPT and Perplexity answers, with sourced pricing, engine coverage and the gaps trackers leave open.
If you only want to know whether ChatGPT and Perplexity name your brand, almost every AI visibility tool can tell you. The harder question is what you do after the answer. A mention count with no cause attached is a number you can screenshot but not improve. So the best tool for this job is the one that tracks mentions in both engines and also explains why you are or are not being named.
That framing changes the ranking. Below we compare the tools that cover ChatGPT and Perplexity, using the vendors' own published information, and we say plainly where a product stops at monitoring.
What "tracking brand mentions" should include
A usable setup does four things:
- Runs a fixed set of buyer prompts on a schedule, so you can compare today with last month.
- Records whether your brand is named, in what position, and with what sentiment.
- Shows which sources the engine cited when it answered, so you know where the mention (or the absence) comes from.
- Separates ChatGPT from Perplexity, because the two cite different pages and behave differently.
The fourth point matters more than people expect. A blended "AI visibility" number hides the fact that you can be strong in one engine and invisible in the other.
The shortlist
1. Promptwatch
Promptwatch tracks ChatGPT (Search), Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Microsoft Copilot, Gemini, Amazon Alexa and Meta AI through the real product interfaces, and adds Claude, DeepSeek, Mistral and Grok through their APIs. Monitors run prompt panels daily per model, country and language. The visibility dashboards report Visibility Score, Share of Voice, Sentiment and Position in Answer, and a Brand Book lets you define what counts as a mention.
What puts it first is everything around the mention. Citation analytics show which pages and domains the engines cite, including Reddit, YouTube and LinkedIn reports. Agent Analytics gives you real-time, IP-verified AI crawler logs, so you can see whether GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot or PerplexityBot can actually reach your pages. Visitor analytics ties AI-referred sessions to conversions, and the Content Agent can plan, write and publish content against the gaps it finds, with a review inbox before anything goes live.
Pricing starts with a free Explore plan (10 prompts, ChatGPT only), then Essential at $95 a month, Professional at $245 and Business at $579. Crawler logs start on Professional. The free tier cannot test Perplexity, so a real evaluation needs a paid plan.
2. AthenaHQ
AthenaHQ rolls tracking into a GEO score and turns gaps into actions through an Action Center and a content optimization agent. Pricing read on 24 October 2026: a free Essential plan with 300 credits, then Starter at $295 a month with 3,600 credits (one credit is one AI response) across 11 models. Credit-based usage is the main thing to model before you buy, and the listing notes no published crawler-log product.
3. Scrunch AI
Scrunch AI Core is $250 a month for 125 prompts and 5,000 responses, and it tracks four LLMs: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Copilot. It also reports AI agent and bot traffic and sells an Agent Experience Platform that serves AI-optimized page versions to crawlers. Reviewers on G2 complain about reporting depth, and prompt credits are consumed per engine, so tracking two engines uses allowances faster than one.
4. Profound
Profound is an enterprise platform that now sells itself as an AI marketer with agents for research, content and reporting. The free trial covers ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews for seven days, and the Enterprise plan tracks up to nine answer engines at custom pricing (an earlier estimate put it near $40k a year). If Perplexity is your priority, confirm it is in scope before the trial ends.
5. Am I Cited and Cognizo
Am I Cited watches eight engines including Perplexity from about 50 euros a month on credit pricing, with a seven-day trial. Cognizo runs prompts across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and more, with Platform from $499 a month. Both are credible monitors, and neither publishes crawler logs.

Who should pick which
Pick Promptwatch if you want to know why you are named and what to do next, and if you care whether crawlers can read your pages or whether AI visits turn into leads. Pick AthenaHQ if your team lives in an action queue and you can live with credit metering. Pick Scrunch AI if crawler-side delivery interests you and four engines are enough. Pick Profound if you are buying at enterprise scale and want agents across marketing, not only search.
What no tool can promise
No tracker can guarantee that ChatGPT or Perplexity will recommend you. Answers vary between runs, so treat a single check as a sample and a daily panel as the signal. The practical test of any tool is whether, three months in, you can point to a page you changed and a mention that followed. That is the loop Promptwatch is built around, and it is why we would evaluate it first.
