Which software simulates different personas in AI search tracking?

Which software simulates different personas in AI search tracking? Promptwatch, AthenaHQ and others compared on persona features, pricing and what personas can't do.

Software can simulate personas in AI search tracking, though how well depends on what "simulate" means. An AI engine does not know who is asking beyond what the prompt says. So a persona in tracking software is really a way of writing prompts, and sometimes adding context, as that kind of buyer would. A finance director asking about invoicing software phrases the question differently from an operations lead, and the engines often answer differently as a result.

This guide covers the tools with persona features, using vendor details read on 24 October 2026 and Promptwatch details as of 28 October 2026.

Why personas matter in AI tracking

Classic rank tracking assumed one results page per keyword. AI answers are conversational and shaped by wording, so the same category question from different roles can name different brands. If you track only one generic phrasing, you may report a healthy share of voice that does not hold for the segment you most want to win.

Personas help you in three ways. They reveal segments where a rival dominates. They produce prompts that sound like real buyers. And they let you report visibility by audience, which is how marketing and sales plan.

The limit is worth stating plainly: a persona is an approximation of a buyer, written by you. It is not a panel of real people, and it cannot reproduce personalization inside an engine that you cannot see.

The tools, ranked

1. Promptwatch

Promptwatch supports personas directly, including persona stacking, alongside topics, tags, prompt types (organic, brand, competitor comparison) and intent. Prompts run daily per model, country and language, so you can combine persona with market. Prompt Explorer suggests prompts from Search Console, ranking keywords, People Also Ask or any page, which gives you real phrasing to build personas from. Dashboards report Visibility Score, Share of Voice, Sentiment and Position in Answer, and a heatmap compares any two dimensions, such as personas against models or topics.

After you find a persona gap, citation analytics shows what the engines cite for it, content gap analysis shows missing coverage, and the Action Board prioritizes the work. Agent Chat can also create and edit prompts and dashboards through conversation.

Plans: Explore free (10 prompts, ChatGPT only), Essential $95 a month, Professional $245, Business $579. Check the current plan matrix for persona limits on each tier.

2. AthenaHQ

AthenaHQ lists persona targeting among its Enterprise features, alongside the Athena Citation Engine, SSO, an audit log and multi-region support. Its Starter plan at $295 a month does not include it, so persona work there means writing persona-flavored prompts yourself. Enterprise pricing is custom, and the catalog notes the most-praised features sit behind it.

3. Scrunch AI

Scrunch AI Core is $250 a month with 125 prompts and four LLMs. Its published material does not describe persona simulation, so you would build persona-style prompts manually. Enterprise adds custom prompt and response volumes.

4. Profound

Profound offers a Prompt Volumes dataset of real query demand and Enterprise coverage of up to nine engines. Its published pages we reviewed do not highlight persona features, so ask about them in a demo.

5. Evertune

Evertune samples each prompt up to 100 times per model and ties prompts to EverPanel, a panel of more than 150 million user prompts. That is a research approach to realistic phrasing rather than persona simulation as such. Prices are not published.

Who should pick which

  • Promptwatch if you want personas available in the tracking tool and results by segment without an enterprise contract.
  • AthenaHQ if you are an enterprise buyer who wants persona targeting inside a GEO score workflow.
  • Evertune if you value large-sample research methods over persona controls.
  • Scrunch AI or Profound if personas are secondary and you will write persona-flavored prompts yourself.

Setting up personas well

Start with three or four buyer roles from your sales notes. For each, write 10 prompts in the language that role actually uses, drawing on support tickets and call recordings. Tag them, run them for a few weeks, and compare share of voice by persona. Where one persona trails, check which sources the engines cite for it. No tool can guarantee how an engine treats a given persona, so use the results as direction.
