Best GEO tools for data and analytics vendors (2026)
Seven GEO tools compared for data and analytics vendors: technical buyer prompts, which docs pages AI cites, coding agents that pick your connector, and Search Console data side by side.
Data teams ask AI engines very specific questions. Not "what's a good analytics tool?" but "how do I stream Postgres changes into a warehouse without a Kafka cluster?" or "which reverse ETL tool supports HubSpot custom objects?" The answer names one or two products, and often includes a code snippet or a config block. If the snippet uses your connector, you have a new evaluation. If it uses a competitor's, the evaluation never starts.
That makes data and analytics vendors a little different from other B2B software. The deciding pages are rarely your homepage. They are docs pages, integration pages and tutorials, and the reader is sometimes a coding agent rather than a person. A GEO tool for this market should show which docs pages get cited, whether AI crawlers can read them, and what coding agents suggest.
Quick verdict
Promptwatch is the most complete fit. It tracks Codex, Claude Code and OpenCode alongside the chat engines, shows per-page citation rates for docs from IP-verified crawler logs, and overlays Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster data on the same pages. The Prompting Company is the specialist for testing whether a coding agent can actually complete onboarding with your docs. Rankshift is a cheaper tracker whose catalog entry lists crawler analytics, MCP and API from its first plan.
Prompts worth tracking
Split prompts by persona. A data engineer, an analytics engineer and a VP of data ask different things:
- "How do I load [source] data into [warehouse] incrementally?"
- "Best open-source alternative to [your product] for [use case]"
- "[Your product] vs [competitor] for event data at [volume] events a day"
- "Which BI tool supports row-level security with [warehouse]?"
- "Write a Python script to pull [API] data into [warehouse]" (send this one to coding agents)
- "Is [your product] SOC 2 compliant?"
- "Cheapest way to run [category] for a startup with one data engineer"
What a data vendor needs from a GEO tool
Docs pages as the unit of analysis. Promptwatch's Agent Analytics reads crawler logs from Cloudflare, Vercel and Netlify log drains, CloudFront, Fastly, Akamai, Google Cloud CDN or a custom HTTP endpoint, and checks each bot against the operator's published IP ranges. You get a citation rate per page, which tells an access problem (never crawled) from a content problem (crawled, never cited). Sitemap page tabs, added on November 4, give each URL its own view of citation rate and position over time, with the prompts and responses that cite it.
Search data next to AI data. 360 Insights is on every brand plan. Search Insights overlays Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster clicks and impressions (including Microsoft Copilot) on AI crawls, citations and clicks per page and topic. Topic Insights flags pages that underdeliver for their topic. For docs-heavy sites, that is how you find a tutorial with strong Google traffic that AI engines ignore.
Coding agents. Promptwatch tracks what Codex, Claude Code and OpenCode recommend. A data vendor whose connector never shows up in an agent's generated script has a different problem from one that is missing in ChatGPT.
Authority is less of a barrier than you'd think. Promptwatch's data report on ChatGPT citation share by domain rank (August 2026) found mid-authority sites (DR 46 to 75) earned almost half of citations and DR 91 to 100 about 3%. A specialist vendor with good docs is not locked out by the giants. Our post on domain rating tiers covers it in more detail.
The ranking
1. Promptwatch
Promptwatch brings the docs, search and agent views together. Every paid plan can track any of the supported engines, and real-interface engines are kept apart from API-tracked models so you can compare what live search finds with what models recall. Prompt Explorer suggests prompts from Search Console queries, ranking keywords or any page on your site, which is a quick way to turn existing docs traffic into a prompt set.
Professional ($245) is the realistic start: 150 prompts, 25M crawler logs, custom reports and the Looker Studio connector, plus API at 2,000 requests an hour. Business ($579) raises that to 100M crawler logs and 10,000 requests an hour and adds the Content Agent. The hosted MCP server has 110+ tools and works with Claude Code, Cursor and Codex, which data teams already use. Seats are unlimited.
2. AthenaHQ
AthenaHQ Starter ($295) covers 11 models, GA4 and Search Console connections and an Action Center. API access is a paid add-on on Starter. Coding agents and crawler logs aren't in our sources.
3. Scrunch AI
Scrunch AI Core ($250) includes AI agent and bot traffic reporting and site audits. Query API, MCP and the agent-facing AXP pages are Enterprise. A fit for vendors that want agent-optimized docs and can reach the enterprise tier.
4. The Prompting Company
The Prompting Company runs an Agent Experience Benchmark in which a coding agent reads your docs and attempts a real onboarding task in a sandbox. On Enterprise, an Agent Experience audit surfaces friction such as misconfigured API setup or unclear errors. Coding agent tracking needs White-glove at $3,000 a month. Basic starts at $99.
5. Profound
Profound lists Agent Analytics with Vercel, Netlify, Cloudflare and other CDN integrations, which suits docs hosting. It is sold as a broad marketing-agent platform on a custom Enterprise contract.
6. Rankshift
Rankshift offers unlimited users and projects and a 30-day free trial. Its catalog entry lists 150 prompts a day, crawler analytics, MCP and API on Starter; prices weren't captured when we checked. It reports AI referral traffic and bot activity.
7. Rankscale
Rankscale is credit-based: Essentials $20 a month (billed yearly), Pro $99 with 50 page audits, and REST API from Pro+ at $229. The audits score pages for generative-engine readability, which is useful for a docs team on a small budget.

Who should pick which
If your docs are your sales team and developers increasingly ask coding agents to write the integration, Promptwatch Professional covers the most ground. Pick The Prompting Company if you need proof that an agent can get from signup to a working pipeline with your docs. AthenaHQ suits a marketing-led analytics vendor that wants a task queue. Rankshift and Rankscale are reasonable cheaper trackers for a small vendor, as long as you don't need coding agents.
Honest limits
Coding agents change the libraries they prefer when their underlying models update, so treat a week of agent data as a snapshot. And a tool can show that ClaudeBot fetched your docs page without telling you why the answer still quoted a competitor. That part is content work.
FAQ
Which docs pages should we track first?
Your quickstart, your top three integration pages and any page with strong Search Console impressions. Promptwatch's Page Tracker follows them through citations.
Can a GEO tool see which AI crawlers read our docs?
Yes, with crawler logs. Promptwatch verifies bots like GPTBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot by IP, from its Professional plan.
Do coding agents use the same sources as ChatGPT?
Not necessarily. OpenCode, for example, searches the web through Exa. Track both groups.
Is a high domain rating required to get cited?
No. Promptwatch's August 2026 data put almost half of ChatGPT citations on DR 46 to 75 sites.
