Best GEO tools for mobile apps (2026)
Seven GEO tools compared for mobile app teams: which ones show the app store pages, Reddit threads and videos AI cites, which track ads in answers, and which measure the visits.
A person looking for a new app used to open the store, type two words and scroll. More of them now ask a chatbot first: "what's a good habit tracker that doesn't need an account?" The answer is a short list with a sentence about each app, and the user goes to the store already knowing which name to tap. If your app isn't on that list, the store listing never gets its chance.
App teams have a specific problem here. Most of the pages an engine can draw on about your app are not yours: store listings, review roundups, Reddit threads, YouTube walkthroughs. Your marketing site may be a thin landing page with two screenshots and a download badge. So the useful question for a GEO tool is less "were we mentioned?" and more "which outside pages put a competitor on the list, and can we get onto those pages?"
Quick verdict
Promptwatch is the best fit for most app teams because it classifies every citation by source type, has separate Reddit and YouTube citation reports, and ties AI-referred visits on your site to conversions. AthenaHQ is the alternative if you want an action queue and can live with credit billing. Amplitude AI Visibility is worth turning on if your product analytics already run on Amplitude, but it covers only ChatGPT and Google AI Overview.
Prompts worth tracking for an app
Write prompts the way people ask about apps, which is usually with a constraint attached. A few patterns that tend to matter:
- "Best [category] app for [audience] that works offline"
- "Free alternative to [competitor app] without ads"
- "[Your app] vs [competitor app] for [use case]"
- "Is [your app] safe for kids?" or "Does [your app] sell my data?"
- "Which [category] app syncs with [Apple Health / Google Fit / bank name]?"
- "Best [category] app on Android in [country]"
- "Why is [your app] asking for a subscription after the trial?"
The last two are easy to skip and shouldn't be. Platform and country change the answer, and the subscription question is where an engine repeats whatever a complaint thread said about your paywall.
What an app team needs from a GEO tool
Source types, not just a list of URLs. You want to see, per prompt, whether the cited pages are store listings, review sites, community threads, videos or your own site. Promptwatch's Citation Trends tab sorts citations into 22 content types and 20 source types, including a Directory type for listing and review sites, and shows the citation rate by type over time. That is the view that tells you whether to fix your store listing copy or pitch a review site.
Reddit and YouTube in their own reports. App discovery leans on both. Promptwatch has dedicated Reddit (subreddits, upvotes, comments) and YouTube (videos, channels, engagement) citation reports. One caution from Promptwatch's own data reports: Reddit's share of ChatGPT citations fell from about 4% to about 0.5% on August 14, 2026. A Reddit plan built on last year's numbers needs checking against your own prompts.
Claims about privacy and pricing. Brand Narrative (every Promptwatch plan) pulls the individual claims engines make about you, groups them under themes such as Pricing or Reputation, and scores them. Fact Check, from Business, checks a claim you mark as inaccurate against the pages crawled from your site.
Measurement that is honest about installs. Promptwatch's Visitor Analytics counts AI-referred visits and conversions on your website. An install that happens inside the App Store or Google Play is outside what any web script sees, so pair it with your mobile measurement setup.
The ranking
1. Promptwatch
Promptwatch does the most for an app team because it covers the outside pages and your own site in one place. Every paid plan can track any of the supported engines, with real-interface monitoring of ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot, Amazon Alexa and Meta AI. Personas and persona stacking let you run the same prompt as "a parent" or "a student," which matters when an engine tailors app picks to the asker.
Essential ($95 a month) covers 50 prompts, country-level tracking, Visitor Analytics, Brand Narrative and the citation reports. Professional ($245) adds AI crawler logs, so you can see whether GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot or PerplexityBot fetch your landing pages at all. Business ($579) adds Ads Radar, which records sponsored ads in ChatGPT Search, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode answers to your prompts, useful when a rival app starts buying your category. Team seats are unlimited on every paid plan.
Limit: Promptwatch publishes content to WordPress, Webflow and Framer, not to store listings, so listing copy changes stay manual.
2. AthenaHQ
AthenaHQ Starter is $295 a month for 3,600 credits, where one credit is one AI response, across 11 models with country-level support. Its Action Center turns gaps into assignable tasks, which suits a small growth team that wants a to-do list. Our catalog lists no AI crawler-log product and notes that Starter is single-country, so an app launching in several markets reaches Enterprise quickly.
3. Scrunch AI
Scrunch AI Core costs $250 a month for 125 prompts, 5,000 responses and four LLMs (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Copilot), with AI agent and bot traffic reporting. Gemini and Google AI Mode are not in the Core list, which is a gap for Android-heavy audiences. AXP, which serves AI-optimized pages to crawlers, is Enterprise only.
4. Amplitude AI Visibility
Amplitude AI Visibility is included in every Amplitude plan, Free included. Its strength is that AI-referred visitors can be segmented, replayed in Session Replay and tested with Web Experimentation inside the analytics tool many product teams already use. Its FAQ says it tracks ChatGPT and Google AI Overview only, and Amplitude does not publish the prompt limits.
5. Profound
Profound sells a broader AI marketing program, with agents for content and PR next to answer tracking. The free trial runs 50 prompts daily for 7 days on ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. Enterprise is custom; our catalog's earlier estimate is about $40,000 a year. It makes sense for a large app publisher already buying an agent platform.
6. Ahrefs Brand Radar
Ahrefs Brand Radar includes Custom Prompts with paid Ahrefs plans, with a daily quota of 5 on Lite, 10 on Standard and 20 on Advanced. It reports YouTube and Reddit sources and AI crawler activity. The quota is small for app prompts that vary by platform and country, but it costs nothing extra if you already pay for Ahrefs.
7. Trendos
Trendos has a free plan with 20 custom prompts and 600 answers a month, and Basic at $39 for 100 prompts. Every plan covers unlimited countries, and it lists an Ad Radar for competitor ads in ChatGPT answers. A cheap way for an indie developer to start.

Who should pick which
If your app competes on reviews and community buzz and you want to know which page put a rival on the list, pick Promptwatch, and go to Professional if you also want to see whether AI crawlers can read your landing pages. A two-person growth team that wants tasks handed to it should look at AthenaHQ. Product teams living in Amplitude should switch on AI Visibility first, because it costs nothing, and add a dedicated tool when they need more than two engines. An indie developer testing the waters can start on Trendos's free plan.
Honest limits
No tool can make an engine recommend your app. Answers change by engine, by day and by country, and a single run proves little. Track a stable prompt set for a few weeks before you change your listing copy based on it. Installs that start from an AI answer are hard to attribute, because the store sits between the answer and the open.
FAQ
Do AI engines cite App Store and Google Play pages?
Sometimes, and it varies by category and engine. The only reliable way to know for your prompts is to track them and look at the cited source types. Promptwatch's Directory source type groups listing and review sites so you can see their share.
Can I track Android and iPhone prompts separately?
Yes, by writing them as separate prompts ("on Android", "for iPhone") and tagging them. Promptwatch tags and topics let you compare the two groups side by side.
How do I measure installs from AI answers?
Measure what reaches your website with a tool such as Promptwatch Visitor Analytics, and use your mobile measurement partner for store-side installs. Since October 8, 2026 ChatGPT has not sent a referrer, so count utm_source=chatgpt.com visits as well.
What's the cheapest way to start?
Trendos has a free plan and Amplitude AI Visibility is free for Amplitude users. For citation source types and Reddit and YouTube reports, Promptwatch Essential is $95 a month.
Next step
Before paying for anything, run the free Promptwatch AI Visibility Report on your app's website. It scans ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity with no login and checks whether AI crawlers can reach the site, which is a quick read on whether your landing page is even in the running.
