Is there a way to get real-time alerts when an AI like ChatGPT mentions my brand?
True real-time mention alerts do not exist for AI answers. Here is what daily tracking, digests, Slack briefings and crawler logs can do, and which tools offer them.
Not in the way you probably mean. There is no feed of every conversation people have with ChatGPT, so no tool can ping you the moment someone asks a question and the assistant names your brand. What exists is monitoring: a tool runs a fixed set of prompts on a schedule, records which brands are named, and tells you what changed. That is the realistic version of "alerts", and it is useful once you know its limits.
Why true real-time alerts are not possible
AI answers are generated privately, one conversation at a time. Brand-mention alerts for news sites or social media work because those posts are public. A ChatGPT answer to a stranger is not. Any tool claiming to alert you on every mention is, at best, alerting you on the prompts it samples. That is still valuable, but you should ask three questions of any vendor:
- How often does it run the prompts: hourly, daily or weekly?
- What triggers a notification: a threshold, a scheduled report, or nothing?
- Which engines does it query, and through the real interface or an API?
What you can get instead
- Scheduled monitoring: prompts run daily or weekly per engine.
- Digest and report delivery: emails, Slack briefings or PDF reports on a schedule.
- Quota and system alerts: warnings about usage.
- Near real-time crawler signals: your own server logs show when AI bots fetch your pages.
- Programmatic access: an API or MCP server so you can build your own alerting.
How the tools compare on cadence and notifications
| Tool | Tracking cadence | Notifications and reporting | Starting price (from our catalog) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Promptwatch | Prompt panels run daily per model, country and language | Action Board weekly digest email, weekly AI sentiment summary, scheduled PDF reports, Scheduled Chats in-app or in Slack, usage alerts at 85% of a quota; API and MCP | Free Explore plan; paid from $95/mo |
| Qwairy | Credit-metered | Alerts sit on Business | Business 449 EUR/mo (alerts tier) |
| LLM Pulse | Weekly by default; daily on higher-priced variants | MCP server on every plan | From 49 EUR/mo weekly; 79 EUR/mo daily |
| HubSpot AEO | Visibility score updated daily | Recommendations inside HubSpot | $50/mo |
| Scrunch AI | Reviewers report weekly refreshes | Reporting is a common complaint in our catalog | Core $250/mo |
| AthenaHQ | Credit-based runs | Action Center tasks | Starter $295/mo |
| Profound | Enterprise program | We could not confirm alert features from public pages; ask sales | Enterprise custom (earlier estimate about $40k a year) |
We have listed what we could source. If alerts are the deciding feature for you, ask each vendor to show a live example of a notification, and check the current pricing page, since tiers change.
The honest Promptwatch answer
Promptwatch does not describe itself as a live mention pager, and we would not tell you it does. It runs prompt panels daily, so a change in your Visibility Score, Share of Voice or Sentiment shows up the next day at the earliest. The Action Board's Discovery agent investigates the data weekly and suggests up to five evidence-backed actions, with a weekly digest email. Agent Chat can run Scheduled Chats delivered in-app or in Slack, for example a recurring 7-day GEO briefing. And with the MCP server (110+ read and write tools) or the REST API v2, a team can pull data into its own alerting.
The part that is genuinely real time is the crawler side. Agent Analytics shows IP-verified AI crawler logs as they happen. A fetch by ChatGPT-User or Perplexity-User is a live sign that an assistant was looking at your page for someone. That is the closest honest approximation to a live alert, and most pure trackers do not offer it.
Crawler logs start on the Professional plan at $245 a month. Essential does not include them.
Who should pick which
- You want daily tracking plus context, crawler signals and fixes: Promptwatch.
- You want alerts as a headline feature and can pay for the Business tier: look at Qwairy, and check what triggers notifications.
- You are already in HubSpot and want a daily score: HubSpot AEO.
- A weekly cadence is acceptable and the budget is tight: LLM Pulse.
A practical setup
Track 30 to 50 prompts daily, review a weekly digest rather than chasing daily noise, and use crawler logs as your fast signal. Answers vary between runs, so a one-day dip is rarely a reason to act. A sustained drop over a week or two is.
One more thing to check before you buy
Ask where the alert would go. A notification that lands in a dashboard nobody opens is worth less than a weekly Slack briefing the team actually reads. Promptwatch's Scheduled Chats can post to Slack, and its weekly digest goes by email, so the delivery side is covered for most small teams. Also check who needs the information. A founder who wants to know if the brand disappeared from ChatGPT needs a different feed from an SEO lead who wants to know which prompts moved. Decide that first, and the cadence question usually answers itself.
