What are the best AI visibility tools for tracking ads in AI search?

Which AI visibility tools track ads in AI search? We compare Ads Radar and other platforms on coverage, plan gating and limits, with sourced pricing and who fits which.

Sponsored placements are starting to appear inside AI answers, and that raises a new competitive question. When a buyer asks an assistant for the best tool in your category, which advertisers show up beside the answer, and what do their ads say? Classic ad intelligence tools were built for search results pages and social feeds. They do not see inside a ChatGPT answer.

A small number of AI visibility platforms have started tracking this. Here is what exists, what it covers, and where the edges are.

What "tracking ads in AI search" should mean

There are two different jobs, and mixing them up causes confusion.

Competitive ad monitoring. Seeing which advertisers appear on the prompts you care about, with their ad copy, claims and landing pages.

Campaign reporting. Measuring your own ad spend and performance. That belongs in the ad platform's own console, not in a visibility tool.

The tools below do the first job. None replaces the second.

1. Promptwatch

Promptwatch includes Ads Radar, which captures sponsored ads inside ChatGPT Search, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode answers to your tracked prompts. For each ad it records the title, description, image or price, advertiser name and domain, target URL and the prompt that triggered it.

The views are practical. Ads per day shows volume over time. Top advertisers ranks who appears most. A By Ad table lists each creative. A By Prompt table shows ad count, your average visibility and the latest ad per prompt, which is the one that links ads back to your own organic position. Filters cover model, advertiser domain, prompt type and date range.

Be clear about the limits. Ads Radar does not cover Perplexity, and it does not report on your own OpenAI campaigns, which live in OpenAI's Ads Manager. Plan gating matters too: Ads Radar starts on the Business plan at $579 a month, and it is also included on every agency plan, starting with Kick-off at $199 a month. It is not on Professional or Essential.

The same platform covers the organic side: prompt tracking, citation analytics, IP-verified crawler logs, visitor analytics and content generation, so ads data sits beside organic visibility. For a brand deciding whether to bid, being able to see "we are absent organically and a competitor is paying for the same prompt" is useful context. Related tooling includes AI Shopping, which tracks ChatGPT shopping carousels and Amazon Alexa product results.

2. Brandlight

Brandlight lists AI shopping and AI ads modules on its homepage, as part of an enterprise AI visibility platform with strategist support. Pricing is not published. Our catalog lists third-party estimates from about $4K to $15K a month for enterprise, which are unverified. It measures rather than executes. If you need ads tracking with an enterprise service layer, it is worth a conversation.

3. AthenaHQ, Scrunch AI and Profound

We found no published ads-tracking feature in our catalog entries for AthenaHQ, Scrunch AI or Profound. All three are strong on organic visibility in their own ways: AthenaHQ with its Action Center, Scrunch AI with bot traffic reporting and crawler-side page serving, Profound with a Prompt Volumes dataset inside an Enterprise contract. Check their current documentation before assuming coverage either way.

How to use ad data well

  1. Track the commercial prompts where you want visibility, not only generic ones.
  2. Watch Top advertisers to see who regularly buys your category.
  3. Read competitor ad copy and landing pages for positioning and claims.
  4. Compare ad presence with your organic visibility on the same prompts.
  5. Decide where to defend organically and where paid presence is worth considering.

Do not infer spend or performance from ad frequency. Ad data shows presence and creative, not budgets or results. And remember AI answers vary between runs.

Who should pick which

Pick Promptwatch if you want ads tracking tied to organic visibility, with a clear plan: Business for brands, or an agency plan if you serve several clients. Pick Brandlight if you are an enterprise team that wants a managed service and accepts unpublished pricing. For everyone else, start with organic tracking first and add ads monitoring when the category sees real ad activity.

Start with Promptwatch to see which ads appear on your prompts.
