Rankability vs Clearscope (2026): two content optimizers that learned to watch AI answers
Rankability and Clearscope both began as content optimization tools and now track AI answers. Plans, AI coverage, seats and the gaps they share, with the evidence layer Promptwatch adds on top.
Quick verdict
Rankability and Clearscope come from the same place, a writer-facing content optimizer, and they've grown in different directions. Rankability turned into an agency workspace with audits, rankings, backlinks and AI tracking on 11 platforms, and it costs less at entry. Clearscope stayed narrow and editorial, added AI tracking on two engines, and kept the clean report that made writers like it. For an agency that wants one tool per client, Rankability wins. For an in-house editorial team that already runs a separate SEO suite and wants the lightest writing tool, Clearscope is the better fit. Neither one shows whether AI crawlers fetched a page or whether AI visitors converted, and that's where Promptwatch comes in.

Where Rankability wins
Scope and price. At $97, a Rankability workspace holds a client's content projects, audits, weekly Google rankings, Local Pack scans and AI answer tracking, for unlimited clients and team members. Next to Clearscope, rankings, backlinks and audits mean paying for a second product.
AI coverage is also lopsided. Rankability checks tracked queries on 11 platforms, among them Claude, Copilot, Grok, DeepSeek and Brave AI. Clearscope's listing covers ChatGPT and Gemini. If a client's buyers ask Perplexity or Copilot, nothing on Clearscope's listing covers those answers.
Automation goes further too. Rankability's Automate queues approved topics on a schedule and delivers drafts to WordPress, Webflow or a GitHub pull request for review.
Where Clearscope wins
Focus. Clearscope's listing describes term and question guidance, readability and structure grading, content inventory monitoring for decaying pages, and Google Docs and CMS integrations. That is a short list, and it's short on purpose. Writers who only need a report open it and get on with the draft.
One AI feature stands out. Clearscope shows the web searches AI platforms run while they build an answer. That's close to what a query fan-out tells you, and Rankability's plan pages publish nothing equivalent. For a writer working out which sub-questions a page has to answer, it's useful.
The trial is longer, too: 14 days advertised against Rankability's 7 with a card.
The gap they share
Both products start from the page you're writing. Neither publishes the evidence on what happens after it ships. Rankability's crawler check reads robots.txt, and its own audit page says that doesn't prove a platform cited the page. Clearscope's listing records no crawler-log product at all. Neither publishes a visitor script that ties AI-referred sessions to conversions.
Promptwatch covers that part. Agent Analytics logs IP-verified visits from GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and Meta's crawlers, so you can see whether the page a writer just finished ever got fetched. Citation analytics shows which pages, Reddit threads, YouTube videos and LinkedIn posts the engines cited instead. Visitor analytics tells you whether AI visitors signed up. A content team can keep either optimizer for drafting and use Promptwatch to decide what to write and to check whether it worked.
Who should pick which
Pick Rankability if you're an agency, you want rankings, audits and AI tracking per client in one place, and your writers are happy in a project-based workflow.
Pick Clearscope if you're an editorial team with a few high-stakes pieces a week, an SEO suite already in place, and writers who want the simplest possible report.
Pick Promptwatch alongside either one, or instead of both, if the brief is "get cited by AI engines" and someone will ask for proof.
Our recommendation
Between these two, Rankability is the better value for most agencies. But neither is an AI visibility platform, and if AI search is part of what you're selling, Promptwatch is the tool to add. Its crawler logs and conversion tracking cover the questions both optimizers leave open. Crawler logs start on Professional ($245/mo) and come with every agency plan, from Kick-off at $199.
