Rankability vs Semrush AI Toolkit (2026): one agency plan or an add-on per domain?

Semrush AI Toolkit adds AI answer tracking to the Semrush suite, priced per domain and per user. Rankability includes AI tracking for unlimited clients. What each costs an agency, what each tracks, and where Promptwatch fits.

Quick verdict

For an agency with more than a couple of clients, Rankability is the cheaper and wider way to add AI answer tracking. It includes 11 AI platforms and unlimited client workspaces on every plan. Semrush AI Toolkit makes sense in one setup: a single important domain, one user, and a team that already lives in Semrush and wants AI data next to its keyword research. Past that, the per-domain and per-seat add-ons stack up quickly. Neither publishes AI crawler logs or AI-referred conversions, so for AI search work that has to be proven, Promptwatch is the platform to evaluate first.

A caveat on the Semrush numbers

Rankability's figures were read from rankability.com on 28 October 2026. Our Semrush AI Toolkit listing says pricing could not be re-verified on 24 October 2026: the pricing page showed only the core SEO plans, and the toolkit pages we tried returned errors. The figures below are the ones our listing carries, marked as unconfirmed. Check Semrush's live page before you budget around them. For Promptwatch we used its llms.txt as updated on 28 October 2026.

What an agency pays

Semrush figures in our listing: $99 a month per domain with 25 prompts and one user, plus $99 for each extra domain, $99 for each extra user and $60 per 50 extra prompts. Rankability: Starter $97 (100 tracked AI queries), Agency $297 (300) and Agency Pro $497 (500), with unlimited clients and seats on all three.

SetupSemrush AI Toolkit (listed, unconfirmed)Rankability
1 domain, 1 user, 25 prompts$99Starter, $97
5 domains, 1 user, 125 prompts$495Agency, $297
10 domains, 3 users, 250 prompts$1,188Agency, $297

Those Semrush totals are the add-on alone, on top of whatever Semrush subscription you already pay. The ten-domain row is where the models split: Semrush charges for each client and each person, while Rankability charges for the size of the shared query pool. One thing cuts the other way. Rankability's 300 queries are shared by all ten clients, so each gets about 30, and some agencies will want more than that per client.

What each one tracks

Our listing has Semrush AI Toolkit covering Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity. Claude, Copilot and DeepSeek sit in a sales-led Enterprise AIO tier. Rankability tracks ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Google AI Overviews, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, Grok, Microsoft Copilot, Brave AI, DeepSeek and Meta AI on its $97 plan.

Where the prompts come from differs too. Our Semrush listing notes that the questions it tracks are AI-generated approximations of what users might ask, and critics have called the output guesswork for niche brands. Rankability's tracked queries are questions you save yourself, and its free AI search query generator helps draft them, but its plan pages publish no search volumes for them. Semrush does show prompt volumes, and our listing cites a reviewer who found the volumes assigned to a pre-seed startup implausible.

Where Semrush is the better fit

The keyword-to-prompt mapping is the good part of the toolkit. If a team already keeps its money keywords in Semrush, seeing which now trigger AI answers without the brand makes priorities obvious, and nobody needs training. AI data sits next to rankings and backlinks, which suits a single-domain in-house team.

Rankability's 50 to 250 weekly Google keywords suit client reports, not deep keyword research. Some agencies will keep Semrush either way.

Where both stop

Neither product publishes the layer that explains an AI result. Rankability checks AI crawler access from robots.txt, and its own page says that does not prove a platform cited the page. Our Semrush listing records no crawler-log product. Neither publishes a visitor script that connects AI-referred sessions to conversions, and neither lists ChatGPT Shopping or AI ad tracking.

Promptwatch's version of each:

  • Agent Analytics: IP-verified logs of GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, GoogleOther and Meta's crawlers, with a citation rate per page.
  • Prompt Volumes: search volume, difficulty and citation rate for each prompt, so tracked prompts reflect real demand instead of guesses.
  • Visitor analytics: AI visits followed through to conversions, via a script, the GTM template or the WordPress plugin.
  • Ads Radar: sponsored ads inside ChatGPT Search, AI Overviews and AI Mode answers, on Business and every agency plan.

For agencies, Promptwatch's Kick-off plan is $199 a month with unlimited projects and prompts, 10 seats, 10,000 responses, crawler logs and visitor analytics. That's less than the five-domain Semrush row above, with every client included.

Who should pick which

  • One domain, one user, Semrush already open all day: Semrush AI Toolkit, after confirming the live price.
  • An agency selling content and Google rankings with AI tracking as a report section: Rankability.
  • Anyone who has to explain why a page isn't cited and what AI traffic is worth: Promptwatch, alone or next to either.

Our recommendation

On cost and coverage, Rankability beats the per-domain add-on for agencies. But both are SEO tools with an AI view attached. If AI visibility is the service, start with Promptwatch. Kick-off and Growth carry a 7-day trial on monthly billing, which is enough time to check your own crawler logs before you commit.
